Why having bilingual subjects in Tavora?

As you all know, our school, IES Comendador Juan de Távora in Puertollano, offers bilingual education in certain subjects such as Mathematics, Social Science and Nautral Science/Biology. Why do we do that? Because we strongly believe it is a factor that, in the future, will help you to have more and better opportunities both in the academic field or in the professional one; that is, if your intention is to continue studying or if you intend to look for a job after secondary education. English will always help you.

The approach we follow in Tavora is CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). It is used as a synomim for Language Immersion. It was created in 1994 by David Marsh to describe a part of applied linguistics which states that, in the school context, there is a better learning in Foreign Language through common subjects such as History o Sciences, instead of studying the language in an isolated way in unnatural situations as an independent subject.

Research in this field has also shown that multilingualism in schools (including French in our school), taking advantage of the resources, strategies and skills that the student develops when learing a Foreign Language through integrated curricula o linguistic and not linguistic areas, contributes in an effective way to the mastery of the communicative competence, and it makes it easier to learn from that point onwards.

So, don't come down if it is a little bit harder. You can do it!!! It is worth the effort!!!

P.S. You will find periodical information in this blog to help you in your bilingual subjects. Check it out!!!
